Yogi government welcomes Supreme Court’s verdict on bulldozer action

New Delhi: The Yogi Adityanath-led government of Uttar Pradesh has welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision on bulldozer action, stating that it will create fear among criminals and help rein in mafia elements. The top court ruled that the executive cannot become the judiciary and decide who is guilty and arbitrarily demolishing a person’s house just because they are accused violates the principle of separation of powers.

In a statement, the Yogi government said that good governance is the first condition of the rule of law and that the Supreme Court’s decision is welcome. The decision will apply the rule of law to everyone, the government added. The Supreme Court’s decision has heated up the politics of Uttar Pradesh. Apart from the UP government, SP chief and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav also reacted to it during the assembly by-election campaign and welcomed it.

Akhilesh Yadav hails verdict

“I thank the Supreme Court for its decision against the bulldozer, which had become a symbol of this government.” Commenting on the Supreme Court’s decision, he said, “The bulldozer, which had become a symbol of this government, has been criticized by the Supreme Court. The lines read by the judge in the court—anyone in a democracy would welcome that decision.”

He further said that he welcomes the decision against the government by the Supreme Court. He added that the way the house was demolished by bulldozer was unacceptable. He pointed out that the Supreme Court had previously imposed a fine of 25 lakhs on the government and ordered action against the guilty officials who demolished someone’s house with a bulldozer.
