Kedarnath: In Uttarakhand, poor weather continues to disrupt the Kedarnath Yatra, as pilgrims face cold temperatures, rain, and snowfall on higher altitudes. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for rain on May 21, prompting special monitoring of pilgrims along the route from Guptkashi to Kedarnath.

Authorities have strengthened safety measures, ensuring pilgrims can navigate changing weather conditions without disruptions.

Pilgrim safety measures strengthened

As the weather deteriorates day by day, afternoon showers and snowfall in higher regions are adding to the cold. Authorities are taking full precautions to ensure a smooth pilgrimage, especially for those traveling on foot. The District Disaster Management Officer has instructed all officials and employees stationed at key points, including Guptkashi, Phata, Sonprayag, Gaurikund, and Kedarnath, to remain alert and monitor travelers closely.

IMD issues rain warning; pilgrims advised to exercise caution

The IMD’s yellow alert warns of continued showers and possible disruptions in travel, with officials keeping a close watch on pilgrims making their way to Kedarnath Dham. Pilgrims are advised to follow safety instructions and carry proper rain and cold protection gear. Officials are monitoring foot traffic, ensuring no pilgrim is left stranded due to bad weather conditions. Travel advisories have been issued, asking pilgrims to check weather updates before starting their journey.

Heavy rainfall expected, system on high alert

Weather monitoring on Tuesday indicated sporadic rain for Wednesday and Thursday and warned of heavier showers. Therefore, authorities are making full arrangements to mitigate risks, including strengthening disaster response teams. The ongoing rain and temperature drop have transformed Kedarnath into a colder pilgrimage experience, requiring travelers to take necessary precautions.

Officials ensure preparedness amid challenging weather

The district administration and disaster management teams are coordinating efforts to safeguard pilgrims, ensuring that all essential services, including shelter, food, and emergency response, remain operational. Rescue teams are stationed across key locations to assist in case of any weather-related emergencies. Authorities are advising pilgrims to move in groups and avoid high-risk areas with potential landslide threats.

Pilgrims continue their spiritual journey despite challenges

Despite weather-related obstacles, thousands of devotees continue their sacred journey to Kedarnath, braving the conditions with faith and determination. As the situation develops, officials remain committed to ensuring a safe and smooth pilgrimage experience. With special monitoring and alerts in place, pilgrims are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and follow safety protocols.
