Mumbai: Sachin Shinde, who joined the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray) on Friday, from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received a major setback on Saturday. His gamble of changing the party failed miserably as the BJP-led Mahayuti returned back to power and is all set to form the government in the state yet again.
Before joining the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray), Shinde was the secretary of the BJP’s Mumbai unit and also an important leader of the party in the Mahim constituency. Notably, he was inducted in the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray), along with his supporters at Matoshree, the residence of the Thackeray family.
Massive defeat for MVA in Maharashtra
At the time of Sachin Shinde’s induction, Uddhav Thackeray tied ‘Shiv Bandhan’ on his wrist. Among the other Shiv Sena leaders who were also part of the event included Mahesh Sawant and Pradeep Sawant. Thackeray further assured Shinde of a promising future the party. “Sachin, you did not get justice when you were with the BJP. However, I promise you will never regret joining us.”
However, as the results declared, the party suffered a massive blow in state polls, with MVA leading or winning in 46 seats as compared to Mahayuti which was leading/won in 231 seats. The Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray) won/leading in 20 seats. There are 288 Assembly seats in Maharashtra.
Ashok Tanwer’s gamble too failed recently
Notably, Sachin Shinde isn’t the only one who switching sides proved costly. Ashok Tanwer who was part of the Congress at one point of time, rejoined the party after leaving the BJP, recently. At the time most of the poll pandits were predicting a Congress win in the state. Even exit polls were suggesting a Congress victory in Haryana. However, when results were announced, the BJP returned to power with a comfortable majority.
