‘You have acted like ISIS’: Asaduddin Owaisi lambasts Pakistan over Pahalgam terror attack

New Delhi: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday strongly criticised Pakistan over the recent Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 people, pointing out that they “acted like ISIS” by gunning down the nation’s citizens in their land.

Speaking at a public meeting in Parbhani in Maharashtra, Owaisi added that Pakistan cannot claim to be a nuclear power and then go around killing innocent people without consequences.

Owaisi was quoted as saying by ANI: “Pakistan always talks about being a nuclear power; they need to remember that if they enter a country and kill innocent people, that country will not sit quietly. No matter the government, by killing our people on our land, and targeting them based on religion, what ‘deen’ are you talking about?… You have acted like ISIS.”

On April 22, terrorists opened fire on tourists, killing 26 people, in the scenic Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam. The National Investigation Agency has taken over the probe. Its teams are present at the site since the day of the attack. They are questioning the eyewitness to the attack to help piece together the entire sequence of events.

Escalating tension between India and Pakistan

In the aftermath of that attack, tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated. India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan and closed the integrated check post at Attari border and revoked all visas issued to Pakistani nationals. On the other hand, Pakistan closed its airspace to Indian carriers.

On Saturday, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasised that Islamabad was prepared for a “neutral investigation” into the terror attack in Pahalgam. However, he added that Pakistani forces are fully capable of defending the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
