Vistara, Air India among 100 flights that receive bomb threats

New Delhi: More than 100 flights operating in India received threats on Tuesday. With this the total of fake threats that domestic and international flights received in the last 16 days went up to 510. The threats were given mostly through social media, which raised concerns over the safety in the aviation sector.

Of these flights, Air India received threats for 36 of its flights, IndiGo for 35 flights, and 32 flights of Vistara. Speaking to the news agency PTI, an airline spokesperson said that after receiving threats, the laid down protocols were followed and all security procedures were strictly taken care of. A case has been filed against an unidentified person after three airlines received threats on their X accounts. The threats received by Air India, IndiGo, and Vistara were confirmed to be hoaxes after a thorough probe on Tuesday.

Mumbai Police has filed 14 FIRs since the beginning of this month

Since the beginning of this month, the Mumbai Police filed 14 FIR cases in October. Earlier, taking the necessary steps in response to these hoax threats the Centre has asked social media platforms to take necessary steps and quickly remove misinformation as per IT rules. The Centre is also considering legal steps to address the issue.

A 25-year-old man was arrested recently

On Sunday, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu said that the Centre was considering taking steps to ban the individuals who make hoax calls from flying. Notably, the Delhi Police had arrested a 25-year-old man from Delhi for allegedly sending two bomb threats to airlines. These posts were sent to the IGI Airport police which was already on high alert due to the hoax messages. The police immediately filed a case under the relevant sections of the BNS.
