SC collegium recommends repatriation of Delhi HC Justice CD Singh to parent HC

New Delhi: The Supreme Court collegium has recommended the repatriation of Delhi High Court judge Justice Chandra Dhari Singh to his parent High Court at Allahabad.

The SC collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna, took the decision for repatriation in its meetings held on November 28 and 29. .

“The Supreme Court Collegium in its meetings held on 28th and 29th November 2024 has recommended repatriation of Mr. Justice Chandra Dhari Singh, Judge, High Court of Delhi, to his parent High Court i.e. the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad,” the Supreme Court resolution stated.

Justice Singh was transferred to Delhi High Court in October 2021

Justice Singh graduated in the law from the Delhi University and enrolled as an advocate in 1994. He practiced in the Supreme Court as an “Advocate-on-Record.” He was appointed as an additional judge on September 22, 2017 and took oath as a permanent judge on September 6, 2019. He was transferred to the Delhi High Court on October 11, 2021.

Collegium on Thursday recommended Delhi HC Chief Justice Manmohan for elevation to Supreme Court

The Supreme Court collegium had on November 28 in a resolution unanimously recommended to the Centre the name of Delhi High Court Chief Justice Manmohan for elevation to the top court.

The five-member apex court collegium comprising Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna and Justices BR Gavai, Surya Kant, Hrishikesh Roy and AS Oka in its meeting held on November 28 deliberated on and discussed the names of chief justices and senior puisne Judges of the various High Courts eligible for appointment to the Supreme Court and had recommended the name of Justice Manmohan for appointment as the top court judge.

There are currently two vacancies in apex court

The top court, which has the sanctioned strength of 34 judges, including the CJI, is currently working with 32 judges. The two vacancies arose in the apex court following the retirements of Justice Hima Kohli and former CJI DY Chandrachud.
