He mentioned that they are working on introducing a comprehensive land law tailored to Uttarakhand’s geographical conditions in the upcoming budget session. He said this while addressing the media at the media centre in Dehradun Secretariat on Friday.

People are violating the provisions by purchasing land in different names

On this occasion, the CM Dhami informed that presently in Uttarakhand, any person can buy 250 square meters of land outside the municipal body area without permission, but it has come to light that the same family is violating the said provisions by purchasing land in different names. The Chief Minister said that we will get it investigated and the land of all those who have done this will be vested in the state government.

List of violators is being prepared

The stringent land laws also needed when such stances are coming to fore when people who have purchased land with permission for tourism, industry etc. commercial activities but did not use that land for this purpose. CM Dhami said that the list of those people in the state is being prepared. He said that strict action will also be taken against such people and their lands will be vested in the state government. He also assured the people of Uttarakhand that, just as the government has resolved numerous long-standing issues since March 2021, they are committed to addressing the land law issue as well.

Changes made in land law in 2017 yielded no positive results

The Chief Minister noted that the changes made to land purchase rules in 2017 have not yielded positive outcomes. For instance, the removal of the 12.5-acre limit and the delegation of permission authority to district officials have been problematic. He stated that these provisions will be reviewed and, if necessary, abolished.

Investors should not be worried

The Chief Minister emphasized that these measures are being implemented to preserve the unique character of Uttarakhand. He assured that individuals and institutions whose investments contribute to employment generation in sectors such as tourism, education, industry, and trade, thereby bolstering the state’s economy, have no reason to worry.
