Traffic jam a major problem in Mussoorie

As per one estimate, around 25000 tourists visit Mussoorie every day during the tourism season between May to July. This creates a problem of traffic jams not only in Mussoorie town but also at different points on Dehradun-Mussoorie Road. Besides, landslides also affect the movement of traffic during the rainy season.

Ropeway is constructed on PPP mode

These problems prompted the authorities concerned of the tourism department to construct a ropeway connecting the Mussoories and Dehradun. The Tourism department swung into action for the construction of this project on PPP mode.

Proper arrangement of parking of vehicles in Purukul

The site for the lower terminal station is selected at Purukul village, located 12 km away from Dehradun city. In Purukul village, there would be proper arrangements for the parking of about 1000 vehicles. Besides, the facilities like washroom and cafeteria would be also made available for the tourists. Tourists would park their vehicles in Purukul village before going to Mussoorie by the ropeway. It will not only reduce the travel time, but also free the tourists from facing the problem of traffic jams in Mussoorie.

Advantage for the Purukul’s neighbouring villages

The construction of a ropeway in Purukul village will be advantageous for the Purukul’s neighbouring hill villages like Johari, Salan, and Bishta. Tourists will reach Mussoorie within 15 minutes by the ropeway.
