Toyota has unveiled a modified GR86 for the SEMA show and it is AWD and has a three-cylinder engine. This is something right out of our wildest fantasies and what Toyota has done is essentially swapped a GR Corolla drivetrain into a GR86 and given it a classic Toyota Rally car livery.
Toyota is calling this the Rally Legacy concept and it will make its debut at SEMA which is happening in Las Vegas. While the drivetrain comes right out of another Toyota product, it was no easy tast and it was not a direct fit. The GR86 features a low slung boxer-four engine which is mounted low in the vehicle Fitting a taller transversally mounted three-cylinder required quite a lot custom work.
It needed a custom sub-frame, custom engine mount and the front had to accommodate for the four wheel drive system parts like axles, and spindles from the Corolla to make it work. Toyota has added some other touches too, like the GR86 now features a centrally mounted exhaust system and it features a sequential gearbox.
The interior is ripped out for a full race interior with race buckets, harnesses, a roll cage, and an aftermarket steering wheel. They have also put on a classic Castrol livery which was famous back in the 90’s with the Celica GT-Four. It also has a huge wing, some speedline rally wheels and a set of round rally fog lights adorning the front of the vehicle.
The engine has been mostly kept stock which means that it produces a similar 300 bhp and 370 Nm of torque from a three-cylinder turbocharged unit. This engine is highly capable and already quite popular in the tuning world.
Toyota has gone all out for the 2024 SEMA show, we recently saw their 4Runner and Land Cruiser concepts as well of which Toyota had chopped off the roofs of the vehicle. The SEMA show will take place in Las Vegas convention centre and it will start from November 5.
