New Delhi: In a deeply emotional message following India’s missile strikes on terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, Kamakshi Prasanna, the wife of Madhusudan Rao, one of the 26 victims of the Pahalgam terror attack — expressed her gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the armed forces for launching Operation Sindoor.
“I heard that Operation Sindoor took place last night, which has taken the revenge of so many families. We lost our husbands, and the name of the operation says it all. I want to thank PM Modi for taking this revenge. Our lives are shattered. They think we just lost our husbands but we lost our lives. Whatever has happened to the families in Pahalgam should not happen with anyone else,” Kamakshi said while fighting back tears.
Her husband Madhusudan, a software engineer from Bengaluru, was among the tourists gunned down at point-blank range in the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam. The victims, most of them Hindus, were targeted in what officials described as one of the deadliest civilian massacres in recent years
Operation Sindoor
Operation Sindoor, launched in the early hours of May 7, was India’s response to that brutality — a series of precision missile strikes on nine terror infrastructure sites linked to groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba. The name of the operation, symbolically tied to the vermillion married Hindu women wear, resonated deeply with widows like Kamakshi. “Sindoor means our lives,” she said, adding that the symbolism was not lost on the families who had lost their loved ones.
The Government of India has described the operation as “measured, proportionate, and non-escalatory.” In a press briefing, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that the operation was conducted due to Pakistan’s inaction on terrorism.
Public support has poured in for the operation, with many calling it a fitting tribute to the victims. Kamakshi, along with other family members of those killed, said they hoped the government would continue to act tough on terrorism and ensure such tragedies are never repeated.
