Shillong Teer is a unique lottery game in Meghalaya, organised by the Khasi Hills Archery Sports Association (KHASA) and centred around archery. The event occurs daily at the Shillong Polo Stadium and operates under the Meghalaya Amusement and Betting Tax Act. Winners are determined by the number of arrows, or “teers,” that successfully strike the target.
Participants can buy tickets at 5,000 designated counters located throughout 11 districts in Meghalaya. Each player begins with 50 arrows, aiming to hit 30 in the first round and 20 in the second. The individual who successfully hits the most arrows is crowned the winner. Meghalaya is one of 13 Indian states where lottery games are allowed, joining others such as Goa, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Nagaland, and Manipur.
