Dehradun: In response to growing security concerns following recent tensions at the border and the ongoing Char Dham Yatra, the Uttarakhand government has activated high-alert security measures across key pilgrimage routes and border districts.
Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami convened a high-level security meeting on Wednesday, reinforcing strict surveillance in sensitive areas and reviewing protocols to ensure national and civilian safety.
The state shares international borders with China and Nepal
The meeting, which followed a virtual discussion led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, focused on intensifying security measures in Uttarakhand’s frontier regions. The state shares international borders with China and Nepal, making it crucial to monitor suspicious activities near Uttarkashi and Chamoli (bordering China), Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar (bordering Nepal), Pithoragarh (bordering both China and Nepal). Officials emphasized enhanced vigilance in these areas, ensuring protection of civilians and key establishments such as dams, power plants, and defense institutions.
Security reinforcement in Char Dham yatra routes
With lakhs of pilgrims registered for the annual Char Dham Yatra, Dhami instructed authorities to activate security checks across all four pilgrimage sites. The Yatra route, which passes through remote mountainous regions, will undergo heightened surveillance, including deployment of additional security forces along trekking routes, regular monitoring of transport facilities and checkpoints to ensure pilgrim safety, installation of emergency response units in case of unforeseen threats or disruptions.
Emergency preparedness & critical supply management
To ensure seamless functioning of security and relief operations, the CM directed officials to maintain steady supplies of essential goods, including food grains and medicines, at district and tehsil levels. Hospitals across the state will remain on high alert, equipped with necessary medical provisions to handle emergencies. Additionally, civil defense groups and volunteers will be trained in rescue and relief operations, strengthening disaster preparedness and community safety efforts.
Strict action against misinformation & social media surveillance
Recognizing the risk of panic and misinformation, Dhami stressed the importance of accurate news dissemination. Authorities will closely monitor social media platforms, ensuring swift action against false reports or security-related rumors. Strict penalties will be imposed on individuals spreading misinformation and security teams will actively track digital activity in sensitive zones.
Restrictions on employee leaves & local security reviews
Given the current security situation, Dhami issued orders to suspend employee leaves, except in unavoidable circumstances. Additionally, District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police have been instructed to thoroughly review security arrangements within their respective jurisdictions.
