Kannauj: A horrific road accident took place in Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh, in which a double-decker bus collided with a water tanker on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway on Friday.
The crash led to the death of six people, with more than 15 others reported to be injured. Local residents who witnessed the accident informed the police, who rushed to the spot to assist in the rescue operation.
How accident took place
The incident took place in Sakarwa area of Saurikh in Kannauj district. According to reports, the double-decker bus was carrying several passengers when it suddenly crashed into a water tanker ahead of it. The front of the bus was completely crushed in the collision, and passengers were seen screaming in panic.
The police arrived at the spot and and began a rescue operation. They carefully extricated the passengers from the wreckage of the bus, and the injured were immediately transported to nearby hospitals in ambulances for treatment. The injured passengers are currently receiving medical care, and their condition is being closely monitored.
What police said
The authorities are still in the process of identifying the deceased, and efforts are being made to notify their families.
Initial investigations suggest that the accident may have occurred due to the bus driver possibly falling asleep at the wheel. Kannauj Superintendent of Police (SP) has indicated that this could be the likely cause of the horrific crash.
