New Delhi: The 31-year-old junior doctor, who was raped and murdered at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, had a strenuous schedule on her last day, according to her colleagues. They revealed that the doctor was very focused on her work and extremely punctual.

On August 8, the victim reported for duty at 10 am at the OPD of the hospital and got prepared for a long shift. She was deputed at unit 2A of the department and admitted six patients that day, as per a Times of India report. Amid her busy schedule, she took her lunch in the sleep room after 3 pm.

“After 3 pm, she came in and ate her food in the sleeping room next door where we eat usually. She was a bit reserved but was extremely focused,” her colleague was quoted as saying by TOI. He pointed out that at 4.30pm, he left the hospital, and asked her to call him if she sees any patient’s health deteriorating.

The next morning on August 9, he came to know about the ghastly incident.

She worked at the 80-bed department on the third floor of the Emergency Building. A junior colleague of the victim revealed that he had come across her in the hospital’s corridor just hours before the crime was committed.

“Didi was rushing towards the ward when I ran into her in the corridor. We exchanged pleasantries. She said she had enormous work at hand in the ward,” the medic said.

After getting into the ward, she checked on her patients, and reviewed their treatment papers, while coordinating with the nurses on their course of medications.

She went for rest after 16-hour shift

At 12 in the night, she took her dinner and then went around the ward. At 2 am, after having worked for a marathon 16 hours, she went in the hospital’s seminar hall to rest for a while. In the morning on August 9, she was found dead.

Sanjoy Roy, a Kolkata police civil volunteer, has been named as the prime accused in the rape and murder of the junior doctor. A CCTV footage showed him getting into the seminar hall at 4.30 am. The cops recovered his Bluetooth headset at the scene of crime. He underwent a polygraph test, in which he told the CBI that when he went into the seminar hall, he found the doctor to be injured and lying in an unconscious state.

However, the probe agency has claimed that Roy was misleading the investigators. It has said that Roy had raped and murdered the woman.
