Srinagar: The Pakistani military resorted to firing along the Line of Control on the intervening night of April 25-26. This was the second time in 2 days that Pakistan resorted to unprovoked firing. The Army has effectively responded to them, said sources. The firing comes in the wake of the attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which left 26 people dead.

No casualties in firing: Sources

Sources in the Army were quoted by news agency, PTI as saying, “Pakistani troops fired at India positions along the Line of Control (LoC) on Thursday night as well and India had responded appropriately.” They said that on the intervening night of April 25-26, unprovoked small arms firings were carried out by several Pakistani Army posts, in several areas across the LoC, in Kashmir.

The Indian troops also responded using small arms, they said. There are no reports of casualties in the exchange of fire.

Pahalgam attack

Following the attack on tourists in Pahalgam, both India and Pakistan’s military are on high alert. The Indian government has announced that it will hunt down and punish the perpetrators of the violence. Reportedly those involved in the terror attack, are from Pakistan and owe allegiance to Lashkar-e-Taiba.

India has already taken a number of steps, like closing the Attari border, expulsion of Pakistani officials from its embassy in New Delhi and suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, to put pressure upon Pakistan. India has also asked all Pakistanis in India on SVES visa to leave the country, latest by May 1.

Pakistan has also diplomatically responded to India’s threat. They have closed the airspace for Indian aircraft and suspended all trade with the country. They also raised objections to India unilaterally suspending the Indus Water Treaty, claiming that any such act would be seen as an “act of war”.
