1995-batch IPS officer Deepam Seth appointed as 13th DGP of Uttarakhand, joins today

Dehradun: The 1995-batch IPS officer Deepam Seth has been appointed as the new director general of police (DGP) of Uttarakhand. The state government has issued a notification in this regard on Monday. Earlier, the state government had sent a panel to the UPSC for the appointment of a new DGP.

The IPS officer Deepam Seth, who was on central deputation, he is likely to visit the police headquarters in Dehradun to take command of the Uttarakhand police. He will be the state’s 13 DGP.

The centre has relieved IPS officer Deepam Seth

Deepam Seth has been on central deputation since 2019. The state government has written a letter to the centre requesting to relieve the IPS officer Deepam Seth from the central deputation. A day after receiving the letter, the centre relieved him paving the way for his return to his home cadre Uttarakhand.

Deepam Seth is senior most IPS officer of the state

Deepam Seth is the senior most IPS officer of the state. After the end of Ashok Kumar’s tenure as DGP last year, Deepam was expected to return to Uttarakhand from the central deputation. The government included his name in the panel for the appointment of a new DGP. However, he could not return from the central deputation.

The outgoing DGP Abhinav Kumar had written a letter to the state government to consider the new guidelines of the UP government   

Meanwhile, senior IPS officer Abhinav Kumar was made acting DGP by the state government. Kumar was recently in the news for his letter written to the state government. He has requested the state government to consider the new guidelines which the UP government has introduced for the appointment of UP DGP in Uttarakhand. In his letter, he also cited the existing Uttarakhand Police Act.

The state government wrote a letter to centre requesting return of Seth

On Friday, the state government wrote a letter to the centre requesting for the return of IPS officer Seth from the central deputation. The new DGP Seth will face challenges to improve the law and order in the state, besides putting a check on the criminals entering from neighbouring states. Seth is known as a man of the field.
