New Delhi: People in northwest India are unlikely to get relief from sweltering heat anytime soon as heatwave conditions might prevail in the region during next four to five days, the Indian Meteorological Department said. The weather department has forecast heatwave condition in some parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh till June 13.
“Heatwave condition is very likely at many/some places over West Rajasthan during 10th-13th with severe heat
wave conditions at isolated/some parts on 10th June,” the IMD said in its weather bulletin. According to the weather department, there will be no significant change in maximum temperatures over northwest India during next five days.
The weather office further said that heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi till June 12 and in Punjab till June 13. Heatwave condition may also prevail in West Uttar Pradesh till June 12, in East Uttar Pradesh on June 10, in east Rajasthan and north Madhya Pradesh till June 11, the IMD said.
The weather department has also predicted hot and humid weather in West Bengal, coastal Andhra Pradesh on June 10, in Bihar till June 11. “Warm night conditions very likely in isolated pockets over Punjab, Haryana Chandigarh and Delhi during 10th-11th; West Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan on 10th June,” it added.
Meanwhile, the IMD has forecast heavy rainfall in Karnataka and Goa this week. “Monsoon is likely to be active over south peninsular India with heavy to very heavy rainfall and isolated extremely heavy falls over Karnataka during 12th -15th and over Konkan and Goa during 13th-15th June,” it said.
