‘No lapse…no weapon allowed’: CISF on December 19 Parliament scuffle

New Delhi: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which was responsible for securing the Parliament House Complex, pointed out on Monday that there was no lapse on its part during the scuffle between NDA and INDIA bloc MPs that took place last Thursday.

“There was no lapse (on part of the force). No weapon was allowed…,” CISF Deputy Inspector General (operations) Shrikant Kishore was quoted as saying by PTI at a presser.

When questioned about the allegations and counter-allegations made by the parliamentarians regarding who pushed whom, he said, “The force will choose to keep quiet when the honourable members (MPs) make allegations…” He added that the CISF was not carrying out any inquiry into the incident that occurred at the Makar Dwar of the Parliament House Complex.

How did the scuffle broke out

Last Thursday, Rahul Gandhi and other INDIA bloc MPs were protesting in the Parliament complex, raising pitch for an apology and resignation from Union home minister Amit Shah for making remarks about Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar the previous day.

As the showdown escalated with NDA MPs, two BJP MPs Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput received head injuries. The saffron party accused Rahul Gandhi of shoving the two lawmakers. Balasore MP Sarangi alleged that Rahul pushed Mukesh Rajput, which caused both MPs to fall. Sarangi received injuries to his forehead and knee during the incident. Due to their injuries, they were admitted to ICU in Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. Later, they were discharged from hospital.

In a counter claim, the Congress alleged that BJP MPs pushed its party chief Mallikarjun Kharge and “physically manhandled” Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.

An FIR against Rahul Gandhi was registered by Delhi Police, after the BJP filed a complaint, accusing the Congress leader of physical assault and incitement. In a press conference, Rahul Gandhi said, “We were going to the House, their (BJP’s) MPs were standing at the gate to stop us. The Home Minister should resign and apologise. The government wants to divert attention. The main issue is that Modiji’s friend Adani has a case against him in the US, he does not want a discussion on this.”
