17 dead as 15 UP districts grapple with flood, rivers remain in spate

New Delhi: Several rivers, including Ganga, Sharda and Ghaghra, continued to be in spate and were flowing above the danger mark as the flood situation in over 15 districts of Uttar Pradesh remained grim. About 2,235 villages have been badly affected by the floods. As many as 17 people have died due to flood-related incidents, Amar Ujala reported, adding that around 3,220 houses have been destroyed in the floods.

The Relief Commissioner’s report stated that Ganga is flowing above the danger mark in Kachhla Bridge (Badaun), Yamuna in Auraiya, Kalpi, Jalaun, and Hamirpur; Sharda in Palliakalan and Sharda Nagar (Lakhimpur Kheri), Ghaghra in Elgin Bridged (Barabanki) and Ayodhya. Water submerged many low-lying localities and colonies in Prayagraj after Ganga and Yamuna river crossed the danger mark. Boats were deployed to rescue flood-hit people of affected villages.

A flood-like situation continues in the low-lying villages in Rampur. Heavy rains have destroyed crops in many villages in the state and there is no fodder left for the livestock. The districts grappling with floods include Rampur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Gonda, Farrukhabad, Bahraich, Sitapur, Ballia, Jalaun, Barabanki, Auraiya, Basti, Banda, and Prayagraj.
