Dehradun: The 38th National Games Badminton Championship kicked off with a bang, featuring intense battles across both men’s and women’s team competitions. In Women’s Group B, the host state Uttarakhand delivered a strong performance, edging out Gujarat 3-2 in a hard-fought contest.

Karnataka stunned by Uttarakhand in Men’s Group A

The second half of the day saw Karnataka stunned by Uttarakhand in Men’s Group A. Uttarakhand secured a narrow 3-2 victory, demonstrating tactical brilliance in their doubles matches, which proved decisive. Karnataka’s players, including Nitin, fought hard but were unable to convert early opportunities, with Uttarakhand’s depth proving too strong.

Arunachal Pradesh couldn’t capitalize on key moments

In Men’s Group B, Arunachal Pradesh faced a formidable Rajasthan team and ultimately succumbed 1-4. Rajasthan displayed dominant play, clinching crucial doubles matches and securing victories in the singles to seal the win. Despite showing promise, Arunachal Pradesh couldn’t capitalize on key moments.  Chhattisgarh, in Men’s Group B, delivered a solid 3-2 win over Rajasthan in a match full of twists and turns. Chhattisgarh’s focused team play and strong doubles efforts ensured they came out on top.

Women’s Group A witnessed Assam take on Haryana

Women’s Group A witnessed Assam take on Haryana in a match dominated by Haryana, resulting in a 4-1 victory. Anmol Kharb and her teammates controlled the match, with Anmol’s standout performances in singles and doubles playing a crucial role in their success.

As Day 1 concluded, the 38th National Games Badminton Championship exceeded expectations with its promise of excitement and surprise. Several key teams set the tone for the tournament, and with more badminton left to play, the competition is only intensifying.
