‘She used tantra-mantra on my son’: Raja Raghuvanshi’s father alleges Sonam used to do ‘black magic’

Kolkata: The father of Raja Raghuvanshi, the Indore man who was killed during his honeymoon in Meghalaya, alleged that Sonam, the wife of his deceased son and the prime accused in the case, believed in ‘black magic’ and might have used it on Raja.

The same opinion has been echoed by Raja’s mother, who had earlier claimed that Sonam might have practised occult and was probably involved in black magic. While speaking to reporters after the thirteenth day rituals at Raja Raghuvanshi’s house in Indore, his father Ashok said, “On Sonam’s behest, Raja hung a bundle-like thing on the main door of our house. Sonam had told Raja that by hanging it, the household will not be affected by any evil eye.”

He further alleged, “After Raja’s murder, I feel Sonam believes in ‘tantra-mantra’ and she used it on my son. After the murder, this bundle was removed from the house. Those guilty of killing my son should be hanged.”

According to Uma, Raja Raghuvanshi’s mother, Uma, both her son and Sonam were ‘mangliks’, and their marriage was solemnised in a traditional ceremony at a ‘muhurat’ that the astrologer from Sonam’s side recommended. She said, “Sonam stayed at our house for only four days after marriage and went to her maternal home as per tradition. We happily sent her off to her maternal home. If I ever meet her, the only thing I will ask is why did she get my son killed.”

The couple got married on May 11 and went to Meghalaya for their honeymoon on May 20. They went missing reportedly on May 23 and Raja’s body was found in a gorge in Meghalaya on June 2. Sonam was arrested from Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur on June 9. Later, her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha, and three others were also arrested.
