Maha Kumbh 2025: Thousands of devotees take holy dip at Triveni Sangam on Maghi Purnima

Prayagraj: Prayagraj witnessed a huge crowd as devotees gathered for Maghi Purnima at Maha Kumbh on Wednesday. Thousands of devotees took a sacred dip in Triveni Sangam on this occasion. Devotees arrived in large numbers since Monday, leading to heavy congestion not just at the Mela premises but also in the surrounding areas, including Prayagraj and neighbouring districts.

Vaibhav Krishna, DIG Prayagraj, said, ” On the occasion of Maghi Purnima, devotees are arriving here in large numbers, for ‘snan’. Our preparations are really good. Everything is under control. Parking, traffic diversions, everything is activated. Devotees are following the rules and regulations.”

Yogi Adityanath monitors situation

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a meeting on Tuesday to review the traffic situation. He discussed safety, traffic management and crowd control measures with officials and ordered the implementation of a special plan to manage the gathering.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to prioritize the safety of devotees while ensuring that traffic and crowd management plans are executed efficiently. Security personnel and traffic teams have been deployed at critical points to guide and assist pilgrims.

Special measures for crowd and traffic management

Under the new plan, the government deployed additional officers and resources to manage the festival effectively. STF chief Amitabh Yash and 28 PCS officers from Uttar Pradesh were sent to Maha Kumbh to monitor the situation. These officers were stationed at key points to ensure smooth operations.

For better transport facilities, 1200 additional buses have been deployed alongside the 3050 buses already running for the mela. Transport minister Dayashankar Singh announced that these buses were allocated area-wise, with 750 shuttle buses operating specifically in Sangam area to ferry devotees.

Railways increase special trains

To accommodate the massive influx of pilgrims, Indian Railways has introduced 25 Maha Kumbh special trains. According to railway officials, these trains will run between various locations, including Gorakhpur, Jhusi, Banaras, and Chhapra. 

The schedule for these trains were and additional trains are on standby to meet the growing demand. This effort aims to ease travel for devotees arriving from distant parts of the state and country.

Parking facilities for vehicles

Authorities have designated 36 parking spots for vehicles arriving from different routes. These parking areas are strategically located to prevent congestion near the Mela site. Devotees will need to park their vehicles in these areas and walk to the fairgrounds.

  • For vehicles from Jaunpur: Parking is available at Sugar Mill Parking, Pure Surdas Parking on Garapur Road, Samayamai Mandir Kachhar Parking, and Badra Saunauti Rahimapur Parking. Devotees can reach the fairgrounds via Old GT Road.
  • For vehicles from Varanasi: Parking spots include Mahua Bagh Police Station Jhunsi Parking, Saraswati Parking near Jhunsi Railway Station, Nageshwar Mandir Parking, Gyan Ganga Ghat Parking, and Shiv Mandir Ustapur Mahmoodabad Parking. Access is via Chhatnag Marg.
  • For vehicles from Mirzapur: Designated parking areas include Devrakh Uparhar Parking, Tent City Parking in Madanua, Omaxe City Parking, and Ghazia Parking. Devotees can walk to the fair via Arail Dam Road.
  • For vehicles from Rewa, Banda and Chitrakoot: Parking is available at Navprayag Parking, Agriculture Institute Parking, Maheva Purba/West Parking, and Meerakhpur Kachhar Parking. Devotees can enter the fairgrounds via Old Rewa Road and New Rewa Road.
  • For vehicles from Kanpur and Kaushambi: Parking is provided at Kali Extension Plot No. 17, Allahabad Degree College, and Dadhikando Ground. The fair can be accessed via GT Jawahar Chauraha and Kali Marg.
