The anti-fans sent the wreaths to HYBE’s Seoul office on October 20, calling for Suga’s exit from BTS due to his involvement in a drunk driving case. The wreaths, which are traditionally used in funerals in Korea, symbolised the anti-fans’ harsh criticism and demand for his removal from the group. This act, although drastic, did not go unanswered.

As soon as the news broke, ARMY rallied in support of Suga, gathering outside HYBE’s headquarters with purple ribbons and banners. Many chanted uplifting slogans, showing solidarity for the artist. Fans who could not physically attend the rally took to social media to express their love and support, resulting in hashtags like #BTSisSeven, #WeLoveYouYoongi, and #YoongiNeverWalksAlone trending worldwide on X (formerly Twitter).

Suga’s DUI case

The backlash stems from an incident on August 6 when Suga was caught by the police for riding an electric scooter while under the influence of alcohol. Following the incident, he issued a public apology, acknowledging his wrongdoing. In a heartfelt note, he admitted, “I violated the traffic laws due to me thinking easily that it’s close distance and not recognizing that it is not allowed to ride an electric scooter after drinking.” He bowed his head and apologized to fans, friends, and the public.

On August 23, Suga was questioned for three hours at Yongsan Police Station, where he fully admitted his fault. After the investigation, prosecutors fined him 15 million won (approximately Rs 9 lakh), and the case was closed without a trial.
