The bodies of the couple were recovered from the fourth floor of the building. Talking about the intensity of the blaze, police said that it took several hours for firefighters to gain access to the fourth floor of the building, where the couple lay dead.
Neighbours noticed huge flames and thick smoke emanating from the building on Sunday night. They immediately alerted police and the fire department about the fire. Soon after fire personnel reached the spot and controlled the blaze.
Investigation ordered: Police
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Manjay Singh said that an investigation has been launched to find out the cause of the fire. Singh said that though the reason for the fire remains unclear, it is suspected that a short circuit or fault in the internal wiring of the house caused the fire. Itis suspected that the short circuit possibly took place in the shoe factory, he said.
The fire due to the possible short circuit led to a couple of LPG cylinder blasts, which worsened the situation, added Singh. Police said that firefighters are still present at the site of the incident and efforts are on to extinguish the blaze. People from nearby buildings have been evacuated.
