Uttarakhand weather: Red alert in seven districts, schools closed; SDRF on alert mode

Uttarakhand weather: Red alert in seven districts, schools closed; SDRF on alert mode

Dehradun: According to the weather forecast by IMD, heavy to very intense rainfall may occur in most of the districts on 12 and 13 September. In view of landslide and rain-induced disasters, the state’s disaster response force has been kept on alert mode.

Along with this, heavy to very heavy rainfall and lightning accompanied by thunderstorms may occur in many districts.

Red alert for rains in Haridwar, Dehradun and Nainital

According to the warning issued by IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in Uttarakhand’s Nainital, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar, Bageshwar, Pauri, Dehradun and Haridwar districts. The administration has ordered to keep the schools closed on Thursday due to heavy rain prediction in Dehradun district.

Orange alert for Uttarkashi and Chamoli districts

Additionally, Uttarakhand’s some districts have been kept on an orange alert for rains and thunderstorms. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places in Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Almora and Tehri. Along with this, thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and very intense spells of rain are very likely to occur in these districts.

Advisory issued by IMD

As per the IMD advisory, due to heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places, the minor to medium landslide, rockfall and mudslide may occur at few places in hills of Uttarakhand causing blocking/washout of roads/highways/bridges. People travelling to these districts are advised to remain vigilant and are advised to travel only if necessary.

SDRF on alert mode in view of heavy rain warning issued by IMD

State disaster response force (SDRF) commandant, Arpan Yaduvanshi said that due to heavy rains warning issued by the Meteorological Department for 12 and 13 September, all SDRF teams have been put on alert in view of the possibility of landslides in hilly areas and waterlogging in plain areas.

SDRF has also been instructed to be fully prepared in other districts including Dehradun, Bageshwar, Champawat, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, and Haridwar. The alert team of Jolly Grant Corps is also ready for an emergency. Along with this, SDRF control room has been instructed to constantly update weather information and exchange disaster related information at the earliest possible.
