New Delhi: A court in Maharashtra’s Kalyan has rejected the contention of Muslim trust that claimed the ownership of a mosque inside Durgadi Fort. The Kalyan Sessions Court ruled in favour of Maharashtra government and declared the place as a temple.

Finally, the court has pronounced its verdict in the 48-year-old dispute over the historic Durgadi Fort in Maharashtra’s Thane district. The court has stated that the fort will remain a government property. In 1971, the Thane District Collector had declared the Durgadi Fort as a temple.

Following this, the Muslim community filed a petition claiming it to be a mosque, and the matter remained pending in court since then. After the verdict, Hindu organizations and Shiv Sena officials celebrated by performing Durga Devi’s aarti at the Durgadi Fort.
