New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains for yet another day in the western state of Gujarat. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also expected to hit the entire Vidarbha region. While some places will see rains of up to 12 cm, at certain places the rain may go up to 20 cm, said the weather department.

Heavy rains in Madhya Pradesh, northeastern states

According to the weather department, rainfall of up to 12 cm or less is also likely to occur at isolated places over West Madhya Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya in the northeast. Similar will be the conditions in Gujarat and Marathwada regions.

The northern state of Uttarakhand, Rajasthan in the West, eastern Madhya Pradesh, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Saurashtra and Kutch, Madhya Maharashtra, Telangana, coastal Karnataka, north interior Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe will receive around 7 cm or less rains, said the IMD in its latest weather forecast.

Thunderstorms predicted for Telangana, Bihar and Jharkhand

Not only will there be more rains in Telangana on Monday, but the state will also witness thunderstorms accompanied by lighting and gusty winds, over some regions. The wind speeds can be anything between 40 to 50 kmph. Lighting will also be witnessed at isolated places in the eastern part of the country, in states like Bihar and Jharkhand.

Gujarat which has already been receiving incessant rains for some time now, will also see lighting, as will Konkan region, Goa, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh in central India.

Several states in South India have already witnessed very heavy rains. Apart from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh is also under water. Several low lying areas in various cities of the state are inundated. Several roads have been washed off, completely cutting off villages. Over 17,000 people have been moved to safer places.

Squally and windy weather over Arabian Sea, Kerala

Squally and windy weather is likely to prevail over north Arabian Sea, many parts of west central and northwest Arabian Sea, and adjoining areas, along and off Karnataka, Kerala coast, Lakshadweep and Gulf of Mannar. Southwest Bay of Bengal, and adjoining parts of south east Bay of Bengal, west central Bay of Bengal, along and off south Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh coast are also likely to witness high wind speeds, of up to 35 to 45 kmph.

Wind speeds can be anything between 45 kmph to 55 kmph, going up to 65 kmph in many parts of west central and western parts of southwest Arabian Sea, said the weather office. Several Indian states including Gujarat in the west and Telangana in the South are currently reeling under floods, as is Assam in the northeast. Rescue and relief work are ongoing and government agencies are trying to help those stuck in flood waters.
