Bageshwar: Kausani, a scenic hill station in Uttarakhand, is experiencing a surge in tourism as travelers opt for it over Kashmir in the wake of Operation Sindoor and the subsequent India-Pakistan ceasefire.
With 90% of hotels and homestays fully booked for June, local businesses and travel operators are witnessing an encouraging revival in tourism activity.
Shift in tourist preference
Delhi-based travel agencies report a significant increase in bookings for Kausani, with visitors choosing the Uttarakhand destination instead of Kashmir. As temperatures rise in the Terai region, travelers are seeking relief in Kausani, Baijnath, and Bagnath Dham, further boosting the region’s tourism economy.
Previously, Kausani had seen a decline in tourist footfall, as many travelers opted for Jammu and Kashmir. However, following recent developments, including concerns over security, Kausani has regained its vibrancy, with tourists returning to experience its cool mountain climate and breathtaking natural beauty.
Tourist attractions and natural splendor
Visitors flocking to Kausani are enjoying the pleasant morning and evening chill, despite daytime sunshine. Many are seen relaxing under the shade of trees, admiring the majestic Himalayan peaks and visiting famous attractions like Baijnath Temple, Kausani Tea Garden, Anasakti Ashram, and Rudradhari Temple.
The region’s serene environment and panoramic landscapes have further increased interest among tourists from states like Gujarat, Bengal, Maharashtra, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Karnataka, along with travelers from overseas.
Tour operators and local economy see a boost
Travel agencies have confirmed that calls for Kausani bookings have surged, signaling renewed tourist confidence. According to Bablu Negi, President of the Hotel Association in Kausani, travelers have expressed hesitancy in visiting Kashmir due to recent incidents, choosing Kausani instead.
This boom in tourism has provided employment for over three thousand local youth
The hospitality sector is witnessing strong demand, with 38 hotels and 27 homestays catering to tourists. This boom in tourism has provided employment for over three thousand local youth, contributing to economic growth in the region. PK Gautam, District Tourism Officer in Bageshwar, has assured enhanced security arrangements to accommodate the rising number of visitors.
A flourishing destination in Uttarakhand
The renewed enthusiasm surrounding Kausani’s tourism revival highlights its growing significance as a preferred hill destination.
