UP shocker: Teenager dies by suicide after mother scolds her for using phone

Ballia: In a shocking case reported from Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia, a 17-year-old girl allegedly died by suicide. The incident happened early Friday morning. The girl reportedly consumed poison to kill herself, PTI quoted the police as saying. The teenager took the extreme step after being scolded by her mother for using her mobile phone too much, they added.

Police found girl near canal

The incident was reported from Pachuwara Mathia locality of Basti Buzurg village of Sikandarpur area. The police said that the girl was upset after her mother scolded her for continuously using the mobile phone.After being scolded, the youngster reached a canal and consumed poison.

A police team on routine patrol found the girl in a semi-conscious state. They immediately moved her to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Sikandarpur. The doctors however referred her to the district hospital. Despite the best efforts of the doctors there, the girl could not survive. The police team said that she died during treatment.

A case has been registered in the matter under relevant sections of the law. Police said that though prima facie it seems to be a case of suicide, they are investigating the matter. The body has been sent for post mortem.
