‘Delhi people relieved of AAPda’ : PM Modi after BJP’s 48 seat landslide

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday visited BJP headquarters after the party secured a historic win by winning 48 seats in the Delhi assembly elections.  Addressing a large gathering of party workers, PM Narendra Modi said, “I am happy that people of Delhi are relieved of AAPda. I thank people of Delhi for showering love on us. I assure that we will work for Delhi and return it with development.”

He also said that love people of Delhi shown on us is a debt we will return. “Today’s win is historic. It’s not an ordinary win. People of Delhi have thrown out AAPda. Today, anarchy, ego has lost Delhi,” said PM Modi in his address.

BJP a top scorer in Delhi polls

Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP came a distant second with just 22 seat. The BJP has ended the political drought in Delhi after 27 years. The last time BJP was in power in 1998 when Sushma Swaraj was the Delhi Chief Minister.

All the AAP bigwigs have tasted defeat in these elections including Arvind Kejriwal (New Delhi), Manish Sisodia (Jangpura), Awadh Ojha (Patparganj, Satyendra Jain (Shakur Basti).

A historic defeat for AAP

This has been a historic defeat for AAP in Delhi since it started electoral politics. The party was in power in 2013, 2015 and was at the peak of its power in 2020. Arvind Kejriwal had been accusing the Centre of interfering in Delhi’s governance and obstructing the routine work including schemes related to the welfare of the people.

Following Arvind Kejriwal’s bail in 2024 in excise police case, he resigned from the post of chief minister and made Atishi sit on the chair of Delhi CM. This time Arvind Kejriwal’s politics of freebies have failed to influence Delhi’s voter and they finally decided to choose an alternative.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi hailed the BJP victory and termed it as a win for ‘development and good governance’.

Writing on X, PM said, “I bow to my dear sisters and brothers of Delhi for this resounding and historic mandate to @BJP4India. We are humbled and honoured to receive these blessings. It is our guarantee that we will leave no stone unturned in developing Delhi, improving the overall quality of life for the people and ensuring that Delhi has a prime role to play in building a Viksit Bharat.”
