Bengaluru: In a shocking case of domestic violence from Bengaluru, popular Kannada television actress Shruthi, known for her role in Amruthadhare, was brutally attacked by her husband, Amareesh, on Friday. This comes just a day after the couple decided to reunite.
According to TV9 Kannada, the couple’s relationship has reportedly been strained for some months now. Shruthi and Amareesh have two children together and were living in a rented house in Bengaluru’s Hanumantha Nagar. According to reports, there were regular arguments, mostly around financial matters and mistrust.
In April this year, following a series of disputes, Shruthi left her husband and moved in with her brother. She had also filed a police complaint related to a disagreement over lease payments. Despite this, the couple tried to make peace and moved into a new house together in Muneshwara Layout on Thursday, hoping to start afresh.
However, the situation took a violent turn the very next day. On Friday, after their children had left for college, Amareesh allegedly attacked Shruthi. According to the TV9 Kannada report, he first used pepper spray on her face before stabbing her several times in the neck, ribs, and thigh. He also allegedly dragged her by the hair and banged her head against a wall.
Shruthi was rushed to Victoria Hospital, where she is currently being treated. She has accused her husband of attempted murder and shared details of past abuse with the police.
The police have registered a case and arrested Amareesh. A case has been registered under charges of domestic violence and attempted murder at the Hanumantha Nagar police station. According to officials, statements are being recorded from family members and neighbours.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the Kannada television industry, with many expressing concern over Shruthi’s condition and the increasing cases of domestic abuse.
