New Delhi: In a lighthearted turn of events, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar slipped and fell from a bicycle during a World Environment Day event held near Vidhan Soudha. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning as part of a ride aimed at promoting environmental awareness and eco-friendly practices.
Shivakumar, who joined fellow ministers and officials in the green initiative, was pedalling around the Vidhan Soudha complex when he lost his balance near the Kengal Hanumanthaiah Gate. As he approached the steps, he tumbled off the bicycle and briefly fell to the ground.
Fortunately, the fall was minor and did not result in any injuries.
Lighthearted moment captured
The incident was caught on camera and quickly drew media attention. Known for his spirited personality, Shivakumar took the episode in stride. Smiling as he stood up, he reportedly quipped to the journalists present, “If you show this too much, I won’t spare you!” The remark drew laughter from those around him.
What added a layer of symbolism to the moment was the location itself. The very steps where he fell were the same steps where Shivakumar had offered floral tributes upon assuming office as Deputy Chief Minister. This coincidence did not go unnoticed by the media present.
Event proceeds as planned
The event continued as planned, with Shivakumar later emphasising the importance of sustainable living. Addressing the media, he encouraged students to visit the Vidhan Soudha, saying, “There is no such Vidhan Soudha in the entire world.”

He stressed the importance of adopting eco-friendly practices in every household and by every child. He urged schools across the state to establish climate clubs to promote better awareness of environmental sustainability initiatives.
It is pertinent to mention that the Karnataka government has launched several environmental initiatives this year, including the “Green Bengaluru” campaign and urban afforestation drives.
Shivakumar also praised the beauty of Karnataka and, specifically, that of its capital, reaffirming that Bengaluru truly deserves the title of the “Garden City.”
