According to the woman’s family members, the wolf managed to enter the house as the main door was left open around 10 o’clock last night. The whole region has been in the grip of fear since mid-July following series of attacks by man-eating wolves. Such attacks have so far left at least eight dead and over 30 injured.

“The wolf came and grabbed her by the throat. The family members heard her cry and ran towards her to find out. The people in the neighbourhood also gathered and then it (wolf) ran away… I was not present there,” told the woman’s son-in-law Dinesh to ANI.

Two more girls injured in wolf attacks in Bahraich

Two more girls were injured in suspected wolf attacks in two villages of Mahasi tehsil in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district on Tuesday.

News agency PTI quoting the officials claimed that one of the incidents, involving a 11-year-old girl, took place in Makupurwa village late Tuesday night, while the second attack happened in Bhavani Pur village that left a 10-year-old girl wounded.

Despite the villagers’ claims that wolves were behind the above attacks, government doctors suspect that a different animal could behind the injuries. However, the forest officials are yet to determine the exact cause of recent incidents.

Massive search underway to capture ‘Alpha Wolf’ under ‘Operation Bhediya’

Since July 17, a campaign named ‘Operation Bhediya’ is underway to cage the pack of six wolves that have been terrorizing around 50 villages in Mahsi tehsil of Bahraich district. So far, five wolves have been captured, and efforts are now focused on apprehending the remaining man-eating wolf.

The district administration and forest officials are actively involved in the rescue, relief, and awareness efforts in the area. The authorities have also installed solar and high-mast lights in open houses and villages to ensure safety.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is personally overseeing the situation, according to officials.
