The tourism sector, which suffered a Rs 60 crore loss due to communal tensions and Indo-Pak border concerns, is now showing signs of recovery.

Tourism sector sees growth after heavy losses

The Nainital Hotel Association President, Digvijay Singh Bisht, stated that April and June witnessed losses exceeding Rs 50 crore, but the current surge in tourists is helping businesses bounce back. He expressed optimism that hoteliers will recover their losses in the coming weeks. He also told News9live over the phone that some of the hoteliers are offering discounts to attract more and more tourists in Nainital.

Pleasant weather draws tourists

With temperatures in the plains soaring above 30°C, Nainital’s cool climate—where daytime temperatures hover around 18°C—has become a major attraction. Tourists from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan are flocking to the hill station, seeking respite from the heat.

Kainchi Dham festival boosts tourism

The Kainchi Dham festival, scheduled for June 15, is expected to draw lakhs of devotees to Neem Karoli Baba’s ashram. Authorities have prepared a route plan to manage traffic congestion, as previous years saw severe jams on the Haldwani-Bhimtal-Bhowali route.

Challenges in tourism management

Despite the positive momentum, tourism faces logistical hurdles. Route diversions and parking restrictions have confused visitors, with many vehicles stopped outside the city despite available parking spaces. Bisht noted that rumors on social media have also impacted tourism, discouraging some travelers.

Tourists enjoy Nainital’s attractions

Visitors are exploring iconic sites such as Naina Devi Temple, Naini Lake, Snow View, and Kainchi Dham. Priyanka, a tourist from Delhi, shared, “Nainital’s weather is refreshing, and the boating experience along with local cuisine has been delightful.” Radhika from Odisha said, “The cool breeze and scenic beauty have made this trip unforgettable.” If the current trend continues, Nainital’s tourism industry is expected to fully recover soon, bringing economic relief to hoteliers and local businesses.
