New Delhi: Operation Sindor provides detailed insights into India’s military response to a significant cross-border terrorist attack. The operation, launched in response to an incident described as an “act of war,” demonstrated India’s robust and multi-layered defence capabilities. The operation involved the coordinated deployment of Indian Air Force (IAF), Army, and Navy assets, creating a comprehensive defence grid.
A key element of Operation Sindor was the effective neutralisation of numerous Pakistani drones and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). This was achieved using a combination of soft and hard-kill anti-UAV systems, showcasing Indias technological advancements in this area. Furthermore, the operation successfully targeted and neutralised long-range rockets, loiter munitions, and Turkish-origin Yiha systems.
The precision of the operation is evident in the targeting of nine high-value terror launchpads across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). These launchpads were reportedly linked to terrorist organisations such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen, and served as training grounds for attacks against India. Importantly, the Indian military maintained that the operation did not involve crossing the Line of Control (LoC) or the International Border (IB).
Operation Sindor also highlighted the robustness of India’s air defence system. The multi-layered defence grid successfully countered drone attacks between the 9th and 10th of May. The operation further exposed weaknesses in Pakistan’s air defence capabilities, as Indian forces were able to bypass or jam Pakistani systems. Indian Rafale jets, equipped with SCALP missiles and HAMMER bombs, executed the mission without reported losses. The success of the operation demonstrated India’s ability to defend its airspace and project its strength.
The operation concluded with a cessation of hostilities. However, the DGMO briefing concluded with a clear message: the onus remains on Pakistan to stop supporting terrorism. The line “Bhay binu hoye na preeti,” meaning “there is no love without fear,” was cited, underscoring the strong message conveyed. International support for Indias stance against terrorism was also a significant factor following the operation.
