Ramban: Heavy rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban led India to open several gates of the Baglihar dam on Chenab river. The move came days after India had closed the gates of the dam to stop water flow to Pakistan, following the attack on tourists in Pahalgam on April 22. The country aimed to choke its neighbour by stopping water flow.
Landslides due to rains
Following heavy rains in Jammu and Kashmir the temperatures have decreased. But at the same time, there has been waterlogging at several places. Apart from this, a landslide was also reported from Chamba Seri in the Ramban district. Traffic was halted on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, following the landslide.

Several travellers are stuck and authorities are also finding it difficult to open the roads, due to continuous rains. The situation is being monitored and efforts are on to open the roads at the earliest, so that vehicular traffic movement begins soon.
India had stopped Chenab water flow to Pakistan in order to force the neighbouring country to check terrorism, emanating from its soil. Other steps like asking the defence attaches of Pakistan to leave the Pakistan Embassy, asking Pakistani nationals to move out of India and closing the Attari border, were taken by India in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
Operation Sindoor
Apart from these soft measures, India also undertook military action against Pakistan. This came in the form of “Operation Sindoor”. India launched airstrikes against Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir on the night of May 6-7, 2025.
Reports said that at least 70 terrorists were killed in the strikes on at least 9 terror camps running in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. Terror camps being run by Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Hizbul Mujahideen were reportedly hit by the Indian forces. India targeted JeM headquarters in Bahawalpur and the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) headquarters in Muridke. Apart from this the Markaz Abbas camp in Kotli, PoK was also hit by Indian fighter jets.
