New Delhi: The US Supreme Court has dismissed the final review petition of Tahawwur Rana, paving the way for his extradition to India. A Canadian national of Pakistani origin, Rana is wanted in connection with the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks that claimed 166 lives.

Rana filed a “petition for a writ of certiorari” on November 13, seeking to overturn the decision to extradite him. However, the apex court rejected the plea on January 21, marking the end of his legal battle. The court’s decision, summarised in two words, read, “Petition DENIED”.

This was Rana’s last legal recourse after losing multiple battles in US federal courts, including the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in San Francisco.
