New Delhi: In a harrowing incident caught on CCTV, a man and a woman narrowly escaped a massive explosion caused by a leaking Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinder inside a house. The incident reportedly occurred on June 18 around 3 PM, though the exact location is yet to be confirmed.
The shocking footage, which has since gone viral on social media, shows the pair desperately trying to contain the leak before the gas ignited and the entire room was engulfed in flames.
Flames erupt within seconds
The video opens with a domestic LPG cylinder lying on a kitchen floor, visibly leaking gas through its attached pipe. A middle-aged woman is seen entering the room, visibly panicked, as she tries to manage the leak alone. Despite her efforts, the situation quickly worsens. Realising the imminent danger, she rushes outside to seek help.
Moments later, she returns with a man, presumably a family member or neighbour, and together they attempt to assess the increasingly dangerous situation. By then, the kitchen had already filled with flammable gas, creating a highly volatile environment. As the pair stand near the cylinder, a sudden spark, likely from a nearby stove, ignites the gas, triggering a powerful explosion. The room was engulfed in flames within seconds.
They were fortunate that all doors and windows were open, allowing much of the gas to escape outdoors, significantly reducing the explosion’s impact.

In an extraordinary display of presence of mind, the woman, despite the chaos, swiftly opens all doors and windows. Her quick action helped the gas and smoke dissipate, preventing the fire from spreading further into the house. Her response is being widely credited with saving lives and minimining the destruction.
The viral clip was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the account @gharkekalesh, with the caption: “They were fortunate that all doors and windows were open, allowing much of the gas to escape outdoors, significantly reducing the explosion’s impact.”
Netizens express shock
Social media users expressed shock and relief after watching the clip, “They’re lucky to be alive. One second later, and it would’ve been a tragedy,” one user commented.
“The whole thing could have turned fatal. Please never try to fix a gas leak without professional help,” another warned.
