Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Radha Raturi, who held an important video-conferencing meeting with all the district magistrates (DMs) of the 13 districts in the hill state, to initiate actions against those who purchased land in the state in defiance of the provisions of the land laws of the state.

She has asked the DMs to ensure actions under the section 166/167 of the Uttarakhand Pradesh Zamindari Abolition and Land Reformation Act (ZALR Act) against all such persons who defied land-laws of the state.

DMs must initiate actions against those who defied ZALR Act

Chief Secretary Radha Raturi has given instructions to all the DMs that the latter should keep a close eye on the land which are purchased with the special purpose. Her instructions are very clear that if the land purchased with special purpose is not being used for the same, it must be identified. The DMs must ensure to initiate actions against all such persons who defy the local land laws. The DMs must ensure actions in matters relating to all such cases of local land laws.

11 districts submitted their reports about implementation of local land laws

The state government has so far received reports about the implementation of local land laws in the purchase of lands from 11 districts. Only two districts- Haridwar and Nainital- are still to submit their reports about the irregularities in the purchase of lands. Both the districts have been asked to submit their reports regarding the same by the end of Tuesday. “Within the next 24 hours, the DMs of both the districts concerned will submit their reports,” a press release, issued by the Public Relation and Information Department, said.

The meeting was attended by the senior officers

The meeting was attended by the top officers of the state government, including Principal Secretary R K Sudhanshu, and Secretary Chandresh Yadav, besides all the DMs of all 13 districts.

No limit for permanent residents for purchasing the land

Uttarakhand’s land laws include restrictions on who can buy land, how much land can be purchased, and the type of lands that can be purchased. A section of people continues to demand for strict land laws in the state. As per the provisions of the ZALR Act, Uttarakhand non-residents can purchase up to 250 square meters of lands without permission, while there is no limit for permanent residents.
