Bengaluru: In yet another incident of violence against transport workers, a bus conductor was attacked with a stone after an argument over issuing of monthly pass.

‘Attacked out of rage’Similar cases in past

The incident took place on October 18 when the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus was parked near the Tin Factory at around 2:30 pm for the bus crew to have their lunch. When the crew were having the lunch, a man entered the bus from its middle door and hit the conductor on his head from back. The bus crew chased the attacker and were successful in bringing him back to the bus. When asked about the reason for attack, the individual told that three days ago when he travelled from the bus he had a quarrel with the conductor over showing the monthly bus-pass, as per the statement by BMTC.

‘Attacked out of rage’

When the conductor was taken to CV Raman Hospital for treatment, he was reported to have no serious injuries. The passenger was identified as Hemant. BMTC has lodged a complaint against him at the Mahadevapura Police Station. The passenger has been arrested. During the interrogation the passenger stated, “It was not a planned attack but was rather out of rage. When I saw the conductor, I lost control of myself.”

Similar cases in past

This is not the first case of violence against the bus conductors. In a previous incident which took place on October 2, a 25-year-old boy named Harsh Sinha, belonging from Jharkhand attempted to attack the conductor, Yogesh. The attack took place at the ITPL bus stop near Whitefield. Harsh carried a knife and hammer in his bag, after a fierce row, he stabbed Yogesh two to three times though he was not successful. On September 8 also a violent incident was witnessed on the bus after a passenger tried to attack the conductor with a screwdriver.
