Uttarakhand: BRO responds swiftly to cloudburst, restoration work underway

New Delhi: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) swiftly responded to the cloudburst in Uttarakhand on Tuesday. The restoration efforts by the BRO are underway on two critical axes in Uttarakhand — Uttarkashi-Dharasu-Gangotri and Joshimath–Malari, both severely impacted by recent landslides and a devastating cloudburst.

Efforts on to restore connectivity

The BRO said that Project Shivalik teams have been swiftly mobilised on the Joshimath–Malari Road with heavy machinery. They are working determinedly to restore connectivity despite challenging conditions.

The BRO said that they have cleared slide debris along the NH-34 Uttarkashi-Dharasu- Gangotri axis. Debris was removed from Heena, Tekhla, Netala, Nalupani and Narendra Nagar, they said. As of now, major clearance operation is in progress. This is being carried out at Dharali, where 300m of muck is being removed and at Papadgad (Km 202), where 110 metre of road formation has been washed away and 60 metre has sunk.

Reports said that an 80-foot bridge has been washed out at Limchigad and formation breaches have been reported. JCBs, excavators, wheel loaders and tippers have been deployed across affected locations, said the BRO. The BRO teams meanwhile are working round the clock efforts to restore vital lifelines and support civil administration.
