Mumbai: Mumbai and Thane are facing heavy rainfall for the second consecutive day, leading the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a red alert for the Thane and Palghar districts. This alert indicates the expectation of extremely heavy rain, while Raigad remains under an orange alert. However as per IMD’s weekly weather report the city is set to experience dry days starting October 24.

In addition to these alerts, the IMD has also extended a yellow alert to several districts across Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Palghar, Thane, and Raigad. Residents are cautioned about potential thunderstorms, lightning, and moderate rainfall accompanied by gusty winds. These warnings are expected to remain in effect through Monday, October 21, with the possibility of extending further in certain areas.

Today’s weather forecast for Mumbai predicts temperatures ranging from 25.99 degrees Celsius to 30.27 degrees Celsius, with humidity levels at 71 per cent. Wind speeds have been recorded at 71 km/h, while the air quality index (AQI) stands at 229, categorising the air quality as poor. The sun rose at 6:34 AM and is expected to set at 6:11 PM.

Weather expert Rushikesh Agre, known for his insights on “Mumbai Rains” via X (formerly Twitter), has cautioned residents about an impending wave of intense thunderstorms. He highlighted that neighborhoods such as Thane, Bandra, Andheri, and Goregaon are likely to experience heavy downpours and urged residents to exercise caution.
