The MG ZS EV was the first electric vehicle that was launched in the Indian market. It now finally has a replacement. MG has revealed the MG ES5 which will globally replace the ZS EV. The ES5 shares its platform with the MG4 and is larger than the current generation of the ZS EV.
Internationally, the ZS EV has already been facelifted but it did not receive an electric version and rather only gained a hybrid powertrain. The full electric version replacement of the ZS EV is a completely different product which is made on an all electric platform.
MG ES5: What’s New?
The ES5 has completely new design and gets similar styling to the MG4 which has a sharp nose. The LED DRL’s are separated from the headlight unit which is placed lower on the bumper. From the rear, it again has an all new design and gets and LED lightbar spanning the width of the vehicle.
In terms of the interior we can see a new digital instrument cluster, a flat bottom steering wheel and a centre infotainment touchscreen with a centre console which has lots of cubby spaces. The seats are plain and simple and feature a dual-tone theme. The minimalist theme is quite subtle and inoffensive.
The ES5 is based on the MSP platform, which is also shared with the MG4. It will be powered by an electric motor which will power the rear wheels and produce 168 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. It will have multiple battery options but the largest battery is a 62.2 kWh battery pack which will give it an estimated range of 525 kms on a full charge.
MG ES5: Will It Come To India?
MG will launch the ES5 in UK, Europe and Australia sometime next year. We are not sure if the ES5 will actually come to the Indian market because MG was rumored to be replacing the ZS EV with the new MG4 hatchback. Both the ES5 and MG4 are quite similar but the ES5 is pitched as a compact SUV.
Whatever the case may be, the ZS EV has started to feel old and we should see a replacement of sometime next year. MG has already promised to launch a new car ever six months, so we can expect to the new vehicle to be here soon.
