Uttar Pradesh: Theft alarm at bank causes panic, staff now blame it on rats

New Delhi: Panic gripped a bank in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi after its burglary alarm went off late on Tuesday night. A large police team was rushed to the scene, which swung into action and combed every corner of the bank. However, nothing suspicious could be detected.

After a thorough search, they left the place. Now, the staff of the bank suspect that it could be rats who might have activated sensors put up on the premises that could have set off the alarm, an NDTV report has said.

The incident occurred at the Shahabad branch of Aryavart Bank, which is a regional rural bank sponsored by Bank of India. It happened around 1.30 am when the bank’s theft alarm started ringing. The cops in police station close to the bank reached the scene with a big team, all well-armed. At least three police SUVs reached the spot.

They launched a search operation and checked every nook and corner of the bank office. After no trace of a break-in was found, the bank’s cashier was called by the police. He also checked everything with the cops. However, everything was found to be in place. The police went back confused but relieved. The employees of the bank are now suspecting that the rats moving inside the premises may have triggered the false alarm.

Branch manager Nitish Kurkrari was quoted as saying by the news outlet that it was around 1.30 am that the alarm went off. The bank staff and the police reached the branch immediately. He added that sometimes, rats activate motion sensors and the alarm gets activated. The premises has been checked properly and everything is fine, he added.
