Kolkata: One patient was killed and some others were injured after a major fire broke out at the ESI Hospital in Sealdah district of West Bengal early Friday morning.
The fire broke out in the male surgical ward located on the second floor of the hospital and soon spread in adjoining areas. Police and fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the blaze was doused after a few hours. A total of 3 fire engines were pressed into service for the operation.
The deceased has been identified as Uttam Bardhan. His family claimed that he died due to inhaling smoke caused by the fire.
The cause of the fire has not been ascertained yet.
