Punjab government withdraws land pooling policy 2025 following farmer opposition

bThe Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government has officially withdrawn the Land Pooling Policy 2025, citing strong opposition from farmers and reaffirming its commitment to their welfare. The policy, introduced to involve farmers as direct stakeholders in development projects and enhance land value, faced criticism from sections of the farming community.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced the withdrawal, calling it a “historic and people-centric decision” that upholds the principles of democracy and public interest.

“For us, farmers are not just voters but members of our extended family. If they are dissatisfied, it is our duty to listen and act accordingly,” said the Chief Minister. He emphasised that the government’s vision of development is rooted in the satisfaction and well-being of the farming community.

Since coming to power, the AAP government in Punjab has launched multiple initiatives aimed at supporting farmers — including loan waivers, better crop pricing, expanded irrigation, and electricity bill relief.

Officials confirmed that no future land-related policy will be implemented without the full consent and participation of farmers. “This move reinforces the government’s pledge to protect the land, rights, and dignity of every farmer in Punjab,” a spokesperson said.

The Mann government reiterated its belief that the prosperity of farmers is inseparable from the prosperity of Punjab.
