Mumbai: Tragedy unfolded at a marketplace in Maharashtra’s Ahilyanagar after an out-of-control car ploughed through a crowd, killing one person and injuring four others on Monday.
The incident took place at around 5:53 pm just beside a bunch of eateries located on a roadside in Ahilyanagar city. People were going about their business when a speeding white Mahindra XUV 500 rammed into a group of youths standing beside their motorcycles, CCTV footage shows.
The impact of the crash was so severe that the youths were tossed several feet away in different directions as soon as the vehicle hit them. One of them was reportedly crushed under as the car kept moving until coming to a halt after hitting another car parked on the other side of the road.
Others standing in the area run towards the crash site in disbelief to the aid of the victims. As per reports, a 29-year-old man died in the accident and four others were injured. The accused car driver was apprehended by people from the spot and handed over to the police.
The injured are undergoing treatment at a hospital while police investigate the accident further. The car driver’s identity is yet to be revealed.
