On July 11, the IMD issued warnings for intense rain in Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Dehradun, and surrounding districts, cautioning residents and travelers to remain alert.

Intermittent rain in Dehradun

In Dehradun, intermittent showers since morning escalated into heavy downpours, causing waterlogging and traffic snarls. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited affected areas in the Raipur assembly constituency, directing officials to expedite relief efforts. He instructed municipal teams to clear drains on a war footing and deploy emergency response units in flood-prone zones.

106 routes—including two state highways—remain blocked

Across the state, 106 routes—including two state highways—remain blocked due to landslides and debris. Rural roads are in poor condition, with slow-paced clearance operations leaving locals stranded. In Dehradun, the Mothorwala-Dudhli road was shut for four hours due to debris, while another blockage occurred near Daur Wala.

On the Badrinath Highway, the situation is worsening in Bhanerpani

In Rudraprayag, rainwater accumulation on the Mayali-Basu Kedar Guptkashi road has endangered nearby residential buildings. A 50-meter stretch near Badeth village is submerged, raising fears of accidents. On the Badrinath Highway, the situation is worsening in Bhanerpani, where 40 meters of the road are affected by landslides and land subsidence. The ground is gradually sliding toward the Alaknanda River, narrowing the highway and endangering pilgrims and locals.

Chamoli district also reported a major landslide in Nanda Nagar, affecting around 1,500 residents. The Ramni-Peri motor road collapsed by nearly 8 meters, cutting off access to villages like Aala, Gary, Seek, and Peri.

Monsoon activity has intensified in Nainital

In Nainital, monsoon activity has intensified, with 778 mm of rainfall recorded between June 10 and July 10—150 mm above normal. On Thursday, heavy rain persisted until 2 pm, followed by light showers throughout the day. Overflowing drains and submerged garbage heaps disrupted daily life, while Mall Road and other key routes were waterlogged. Tourism has also taken a hit, with visitor numbers dropping sharply due to the weather.

Light to moderate rain is expected on Friday and Saturday

According to IMD Director Dr. Bikram Singh, light to moderate rain is expected on Friday and Saturday, followed by heavier spells from Sunday through Thursday. The IMD has forecast thunderstorms and intense rain at isolated locations across hilly districts, urging caution near rivers and landslide-prone areas. With infrastructure strained and relief operations underway, Uttarakhand faces a critical period of weather-related vulnerability.

Authorities continue to monitor conditions closely, emphasizing preparedness and public cooperation to mitigate risks during this turbulent monsoon phase.
