Uttarakhand weather update: Light to moderate rain likely in Uttarkashi, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar; heavy showers in several districts

Dehradun: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rain and thunderstorms in Uttarkashi, Haridwar, and Udham Singh Nagar districts today, while many other parts of Uttarakhand are likely to experience widespread rainfall, including heavy showers in select hilly regions. The weather pattern, driven by pre-monsoon activity, is expected to bring both relief and caution across the state.

According to the IMD, dark clouds continue to hover over the state, with intermittent rainfall recorded over the past few days. The current spell is expected to intensify, particularly in Bageshwar and Pithoragarh, where a yellow alert has been issued for heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. Wind speeds may reach 40–50 km/h, especially in exposed and elevated areas.

The sky is expected to remain partly cloudy

In Dehradun, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy, with the maximum temperature hovering around 35°C and the minimum near 23°C. On Tuesday, the city recorded a high of 34.7°C and a low of 24.5°C, reflecting a slight dip due to overnight showers. Similar trends were observed in other parts of the state: Pantnagar recorded 34.5°C/25.5°C, Mukteshwar remained cooler at 23°C/15.8°C, and New Tehri registered 24.6°C/17.6°C.

Monsoon conditions are developing steadily

The IMD has also indicated that monsoon conditions are developing steadily, with its arrival in Uttarakhand expected between June 20 and 23. Until then, the state will continue to experience pre-monsoon showers, which are likely to intensify in frequency and coverage.

The ongoing Char Dham Yatra and tourist activity in hill stations like Mussoorie, Nainital, and Auli have prompted authorities to issue advisories urging caution, especially in landslide-prone zones. Pilgrims and travelers are advised to check weather updates regularly, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain, and carry protective gear.

Emergency response teams have been placed on standby

The IMD’s alert also serves as a reminder for local administrations to remain vigilant. Emergency response teams have been placed on standby in vulnerable districts, and disaster management protocols are being reviewed to ensure swift action in case of flash floods or road blockages. As Uttarakhand awaits the full onset of the monsoon, today’s forecast underscores the dual nature of the season—offering respite from heat while demanding preparedness for nature’s unpredictability.
