Dehradun: The weather in Uttarakhand has taken an unusual turn, with heavy rainfall cooling the hilly regions, while intense heat continues to grip the plains. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rain and thunderstorms in the coming days, though the monsoon’s full arrival remains delayed.
Several hilly districts, including Dehradun, Nainital, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Tehri, and Bageshwar, experienced morning showers, leading to a drop in temperature. However, in the plains, including Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar, the heat remains relentless, with temperatures exceeding 30°C. Scattered showers are offering temporary relief, but heatwaves persist in lower areas.
Badrinath Dham and Hemkund Sahib continue to experience bad weather conditions
The road connecting Kaunj Pothni village in Chamoli district has been blocked due to heavy rain, causing disruptions in local travel. Fog has settled in the river valleys, while Badrinath Dham and Hemkund Sahib continue to experience bad weather conditions.
Monsoon delayed, light rain offers temporary relief
Despite earlier predictions that the monsoon would arrive by June 11, meteorologists now expect it to become active only after June 20. Rohit Thapliyal, a weather scientist, stated that light to moderate rain will continue in different parts of the state until June 16, offering temporary relief from the humid heat.
Weather shift in Dehradun valley
In Dehradun, the weather has turned unpredictable, with half the city receiving rain while the other half remained dry. The humidity persists, but the rain showers have provided some relief. The next three to four days are expected to bring light showers, potentially reducing temperatures by two to three degrees Celsius.
Impact on daily life
The heavy rain in Pithoragarh has disrupted normal life, while afternoon showers in Dehradun have cooled the city. Residents in lower regions continue to struggle with high temperatures, eagerly awaiting the monsoon’s full arrival. With the monsoon expected to strengthen after June 20, Uttarakhand’s weather will likely stabilize, bringing consistent rainfall across the state. Until then, sporadic showers and thunderstorms will provide temporary relief, while heatwaves persist in the plains.
